Growing lush greens, veggies, and herbs in your LettuceGrow Farmstand is THE most luxurious and rewarding experience until you notice tiny green dots gathering on the backs of your plant’s leaves, down its stem, or over unfurled blooms. To no fault of your own, you’ve just entered a battle with one of the most common garden pests. Luckily, we’ve found the best way to win that battle fast.
What are Aphids?
Those little dots are aphids, soft-bodied pests that are attracted to nitrogen– a key macronutrient plants use for overall growth (especially lush foliage). Ironically, if your plants are growing well, aphids are likely to find them. Aphids not only feed on your plants; they can also spread devastating plant diseases, so you want to get rid of them ASAP.
An aphid infestation can quickly become overwhelming for you and your plants without intervention. However, you shouldn’t use any pest control product you can get your hands on because you’re also eating what you’re growing– this is why the Lettuce Grow team fell in love with using Arber’s Bio Insecticide when pests attack our farmstand.
How to Use Arber to Treat Aphids
In this case, grab Arber’s Bio Insecticide. This powerful biological concentrate contains Burkholderia– a unique, naturally occurring soil bacterium that disrupts pests’ eating and reproduction cycles when consumed. The treatment is simple to mix; here’s how to use it:
With biologicals, it’s always best to use them preventatively when possible. Once the seedlings are set up in your farmstand, spray foliage and the exposed area of the growing medium to stop those annoying aphids before they can even get started. If you’re growing indoors and have grow lights installed, turn them off before treating and keep them off until the solution has dried. For outdoor growing, spray solution early in the morning or at dusk. (Direct light can burn damp leaves.) Repeat this process every 2 weeks for best results.
If you need to treat an infestation– no worries! Arber can still work for you. Spray foliage and the exposed area of the growing medium every 3-5 days until the problem is under control. If you’re growing indoors and have grow lights installed, turn them off before treating and keep them off until the solution has dried. For outdoor growing, spray solution early in the morning or at dusk. (Direct light can burn damp leaves.) From there, treat every 2 weeks for best results.
