We chose this variety for its light green lilypad leaves that can be used as bed for fish or steak or as a pop of texture and taste in a salad, and delicate deep scarlet flowers that make a beautiful garnish for any plate. The leaves have a fresh, peppery taste - flowers have a similar flavor but are more mild.
This trailing, vine-like flowering plant should be planted at the bottom of your farm to allow the plant to hang down. Leaves will develop more of the characteristic sweetness and become a bit more fibrous as they grow. Flowers can be harvested individually at any time unless waiting for seed pods. Harvest flowers regularly to promote flowering and be sure to prune regularly as leaves can get out of control if not kept tidy. Be gentle when moving and handling as tender central stalks can snap at the base of the plant.
