Harvesting tips

Growing up to 24", this basil can quickly grow lanky, a condition that will worsen as it tries to flower. To curtail this tendency, pinch or cut stalks as they grow past 6 - 8" to encourage side shoot production and make the plant bushier. When harvesting, make sure to leave around 4" of stalk from the base where new leaves and branches can grow.

    Fresh basil on hand!

One of my favorite plants to add to each order is basil. I have added to salads, sandwiches, pastas, hot dishes of all kinds and even wrapped meats and cheeses in the leaves. Recently, I have added making homemade pesto with the generous harvests. Flavorful, fresh and always on hand!
