Cilantro

A fresh and citrusy herb to brighten up everything from tacos to curries.

Edible from root to seed, cilantro leaves and stems have a unique, herbal-citrus flavor. The leaves are a feature of cuisines worldwide both cooked into soups and stews or used at the end of cooking to add fresh complexity. In the garden, cilantro also attracts beneficial insects like ladybugs. We chose this variety for its consistency of growth and flavor but also for its resistance to bolting, which stops leaf growth.

Harvesting tips

This useful herb should be planted in part shade to keep cool and harvested often to avoid bolting. Wait until plant is 6-10" then start harvesting sprigs as needed. Harvest the mature, outer leaves first by cutting their stems at the base of the plant. Protect new growth to keep the plant growing by leaving the younger stems intact. Keep harvested cilantro in a glass of water on the counter if using within the next 5 days. Remove the whole plant immediately if it begins to bolt (stems swell and begin to elongate and leaf shape turns feathery).

    Cilantro

Another fun one to watch grow! Very helpful to have handy when it is taco night or I want to make some homemade salsa. I have never been able to get cilantro to grow in a planter but in my Lettucegrow garden I never run out!
