Spearmint

$2.99
Meet a mild - and delightfully delicate - alternative to other mint varieties.

Spearmint yields oval, serrated leaves in abundant shades of green. Leave this variety in the Farmstand for long enough, and you’ll also spot an array of purple and blue flowers. With a sweet flavor that stems from carvone instead of menthol, you won’t find a “cooling” sensation here. Looking for the ultimate dose of flavor and texture? Pick leaves while they’re fresh and youthful, then add a fragrant touch to savory dishes and Summer drinks, from lemonade to its punchier adult counterparts.

Harvesting tips

Plant this trailing seedling on the lower portion of your farm, and allow it to hang down as it grows. Mint can be kept growing in your farm almost year-round and harvested as needed. However, this plant can be a little bit aggressive, so it requires tending. To do this, pull the plant, with grow cup and roots attached, gently out of your farm and trim back root growth on the sides of grow cup. Also trim back the white, trailing stems as they will attempt to grow into other ports and then gently place back in your farm.

If the maintenance feels burdensome, let mint grow until stems are 6-12" and harvest the whole plant. You can also prevent overcrowding by harvesting whole vines in order to thin out the seedling.
