The Farmstand would not be the same without our seedlings! They are grown by our Horticulture Teams with love and care so that they arrive at your doorstep ready to be planted in your Farmstand. We do a lot of behind the scenes work to ensure our growers have the best experience.

Learn what makes our seedlings so great and sets them apart!

Pre-Sprouted Seedlings

We start your seedlings in our greenhouse to give you a head start on growing and harvesting food for your table! Seedlings are 3 - 4 weeks old when they arrive at your door with all of the hard work of sowing and germination already done.

Our worry-free seedlings side-step germination issues and shorten our growers' harvest windows. Most varieties are ready to harvest within 3 - 5 weeks of planting because of this head start!

Pest Prevention Strategies

All of our seedling centers adhere to strict pest prevention strategies in order to guarantee our seedlings arrive pest-free. We use OMRI certified pest solutions and inspect all of our seedlings before they are approved for fulfillment.

High-Quality Seeds

We strive to source high-quality, non-GMO, and organic seeds! While we grow all of our seedlings in accordance with organic guidelines and never use GMO seeds, some varieties may not use organic seeds due to supply constraints. This will always be noted on their seedling page.

Sustainable Grow Medium

The grow medium we use to sprout our seedlings is a mix of coco coir and sustainably sourced peat moss.

Expert Tested & Seasonally Curated

Our seedling selection is seasonally curated and thoroughly tested by our Horticulture Teams to ensure our growers have the best results! Seedlings are chosen based on flavor, yield, and functionality within the Farmstand. Since they are offered on a seasonal basis and recommended using historical climate data, you never have to worry about plants not being suited for your environment!

DIY Seedlings

If you want to get more involved with your plants’ life cycle, grow a variety that we don’t currently offer or receive some seedlings from a gardening friend, growing your own seedlings can be a fun project! All you need is a hydroponic grow media and some seeds.

Once you have a hydroponic grow media and seeds of your choice, sow the seeds in the depression at the center of the grow medium. For greens like arugula and spinach, sowing multiple seeds per plug will give you a greater harvest; larger veggies such as tomatoes only require one seed per plug.

These can then be placed in a tray or plate with some water to sprout before being planted in the Farmstand. However, some growers plant the newly seeded grow medium directly in their Farmstand. Many seeds do not require darkness to germinate but some do, so it is helpful to research best practices for different varieties.

Seedlings can be grown outdoors in full sun if you live in an area with mild weather but you will want to keep them indoors if your weather is excessively hot or cold.Be sure to check the moisture level of the plugs daily so that they don't dry out during the sensitive germination phase of the seed. Water gently with a hose end attachment or spray with a mist bottle if you are growing under lights indoors. Once the seedlings are a few inches tall, they are ready to plant in your Farmstand!
